Stone Soup

Friday Holly read another book and did a story map of the book. This week's book was Stone Soup. She enjoyed this story a lot, one we have looked at a few times over the years. However this is the first time she has read the story to me.

After her sharing the story with me she sat down to a story map of it. She did a fantastic job with it too!!! She enjoys these kinds of lessons a lot, which thrills me to death. I love that she works hard on really breaking the story down and has a good discussion with me over it.

Once her story mapping was finished she created a great art project from simple paper piecing - the title of her work is Stone Soup. She really enjoyed the simplicity of cutting from an array of construction paper and gluing, no drawing or extra materials, simply cutting and gluing. It turned out beautifully!

  1. Where do you get your story map worksheets? I'd love to use something like that with my first grader. :)

  2. I love that book. I still remember reading it when I was in grade school. After reading that book to my daughter, we got together with the grandparents and made a big pot of vegetable soup. Everybody contributed with the ingredients. A great lesson on sharing!
