Yesterday Holly did a small project on Snowflakes!
We read Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, this is a really sweet book. And then we went through this site Snowflake Bentley and enjoyed learning more about Wilson and watched a small clip from a documentary. Such a fun way to enjoy his life and how he photographed snowflakes way back then! He took over 5,000 snowflakes!!
Holly worked on learning a poem called Falling Snow. With the poem we read it a few times, reviewed stanzas and matched up rhyming words throughout the poem. She then did copy work with this poem. Holly also cut out a snowflake to accompany her copy work.
She also did a great little snowflake book through Enchanted Learning which introduced basic knowledge on snowflakes such as the various kinds: six arms, plates, needles and tubes. How ice crystals are formed around dust particles within clouds, becoming larger as they fall depending on the temperature and humidity. Holly also completed a Snowflake Word Wheel from Enchanted Learning that reinforced all the information she just learned.
A couple of other sites for photos:
