Peter & The Wolf
This past week we took the kids to see the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Peter and The Wolf. It was wonderful and well recieved by both kiddos!!! Hudson is a little musical lover, he is slightly obsessed with music and instruments, so this was a perfect fit for him. For a two year old, he sat perfectly through the entire performance and asked to come back again. Before the show started you could arrive early and try instruments out in their Instrument Zoo, they both really enjoyed trying out real instruments and seeing how they feel, work and sound. It was great. They loved it so much!!

New Year!
The holidays have been wonderful to our family! We enjoyed many great outings, activities and quiet moments together. With the closing of the holiday season I thought I would share a few items we enjoyed before we head into the new year with school! While on vacation Holly enjoyed the Pacific Northwest Ballet's Nutcracker, Seattle Children's Theater's production of Wizard of Oz, a family trip to Leavenworth, her first Christmas Choir Concert with Tacoma Youth Chorus, the new Olympia Children's Museum and many fun times with friends. Many firsts this month and much enjoyment!

Fish Hatchery & Salmon Walk
We are very fortunate to live within a mile of a small fish hatchery and a stream salmon spawn in. We visit the fish hatchery several times a year to see fish for fun, but this time of year is a bit more special as we walk through the hatchery to the stream in hopes of finding salmon.
Last night we took a small walk when Dad came home and enjoyed a small adventure through the fish hatchery. They had many more holding tanks open with fish in them then previous visits, making it much more exciting. As well, we enjoyed many birds in the area including Blue Heron, Kill Deer and a Kingfisher.
We made it back to the stream and didn't find too many salmon, kind of disappointing. We did find a few that have already turned, but nothing like years past. We will visit once again in about a week to see if there are any changes. While the salmon were a bit thin, we did enjoy some gorgeous fall foliage, tossing pebbles in the stream and the simple sounds a stream offers. A wonderful evening!!

Looking Back & Forward
The fun of our past several weeks is slowly coming to an end as we begin to gear back up for school... second grade and preschool to be exact! Our summer though has been amazing and filled with so many wonderful activities, friends and family. While we still have some flexibility to embrace the beautiful days of September before the chill of fall settles in, we will officially be starting school next week. I have been working on organizing, changing a few things up, reading through our materials, making a general plan of our weeks which I am sure will need some modifications, pondering working some subjects in as units or semester approaches versus scattering them about and preparing my mind for some preschool work for the youngest. While young, he is ready for something... preschool or tot school, some where in the middle! Basically, we are busy getting ready - physically and mentally.
I'll start ramping up posts again here over the next couple of weeks - the summer break has been wonderful and I feel ready to resume posting!! I thought I would share just a small sampling of our summer adventures.
